This year, the UNESCO Chair in Human Rights at the University of the Republic of Uruguay and the international community will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. As part of the celebrations, university students from Uruguay and abroad are invited to take part in an essay competition on the subject of climate change.

Biggest shake up to UK Immigration System in 40 years
The UK government announced the introduction of a new point based system – which will start operating on 30th June - for assessing highly skilled migrants wanting to come to the UK to work.

 

The UK has submitted a request for a 10 year extension of the deadline to fulfil its obligation to clear all anti-personnel landmines in mined areas under its jurisdiction and control.

GOF becomes Strategic Programme Fund: To underline the link between the FCO's policy goals and programme funds, the Global Opportunities Fund (GOF) has been renamed the Strategic Programme Fund (SPF).

The Falkland Islands are an archipelago in the South Atlantic, consisting of two main islands, East Falkland and West Falkland, and about 700 smaller islands. The islands are 300 miles (483 km) from the South American mainland. The total land area is 12,173 km². They are a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Executive authority is exercised by the governor on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen. Port Stanley, on East Falkland is the largest city and the capital. The Falkland Islands are often referred to in Spanish as "Islas Malvinas".
