Introduction of interviews for passport applicants
The British Embassy in Austria has introduced interviews as part of the passport application process for some applicants starting from 6 October 2008. Please go to the Passport interviews page of this website for more information.

Change of Payment Option for Consular Section
With effect from 1 September 2008 all applications for passports and notarial services submitted by post/courier must be paid by Visa or Mastercard debit and credit card. Cash payments will no longer be accepted by post.
If you are applying for Passports and/or other Consular Services in person you can pay either by Visa or Mastercard debit and credit card or in cash. For more information please visit our Consular Fees or Passport Fees.

Change to passport enquiries
With effect from July 18th 2008, all British passport telephone enquiries will be handled by Abtran Call Centre Services at 0820 520 111. If British passport applicants in Austria are unable to obtain the passport information they require from the passports section of this website, they will be able to call Abtran between 9.00am and 17.30 Monday to Friday excluding Christmas Eve (24 December), Christmas Day (25 December), Boxing Day (26 December), the 31st December, and New Years Day (1 January). A call to Abtran will be charged at €0.19 per minute on your telephone bill for the duration of the call, and €1.60 per minute on your credit card once you have successfully entered your credit card details. Please have your credit card details ready before you make the call. Please note the British Embassy in Vienna will be unable to answer any passport queries sent by email or fax.

The above number might get blocked by mobile phone carriers, and in some instances, at work places also. Please contact your telephone provider in order to have the number unblocked. If you have a complaint regarding the Abtran service, please email Abtran directly on: UKpassportserviceaustria@abtran.com. All complaints will be responded to initially within 24 hours.

New regional centre for visa processing at the British Embassy Warsaw
From 31 March 2008 the British Embassy in Warsaw will process visa applications made at the British Embassy Vienna. For details please see our Visa page
