  Metropolital Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair to visit Athens (13-14 May)

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair is making a full-day official visit to Cyprus and Athens next week.  The visit is aimed at furthering British Police collaboration and liaison with Greek and Creek Cypriot Police and exchanging experience relating to community  policing, terrorism and the Olympics.
 
The Commissioner said: “London will be hosting 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and this visit will enable us built on the security cooperation with Greece that worked so well in the planning and delivery of 2004 Games”, said Sir Ian.
 
It will also provide the opportunity to share some of the UK’s experience in making policing more community focussed and how this can contribute to combating terrorism at a time when radicalisation and extremism pose a threat across the international community.

The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has launched a new FCO Bloggers - Global Conversations.
 
This is a new platform for UK Ministers to engage in a dialogue about international affairs and the work of the FCO. To begin with there will be six bloggers including Foreign Secretary David Miliband, and Europe Minister Jim Murphy, as well as staff from throughout the organisation. The FCO has also launched a new YouTube video channel and Flickr photo account.

New online visa application service
From 26 February 2007 the British Embassy in Athens offers a new online application service for travellers who require a visa to enter the United Kingdom. Visa applicants resident in Greece should now complete their visa application online. In addition, they need to book an appointment online in order to submit their application in person at the British Embassy. This can be done by logging onto www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk.
 
Please note that this does NOT apply to Greek citizens; Greek citizens do NOT need a visa to visit the UK. There is free movement within the EU for Greek Nationals who may travel on their Greek Passport or National Identity Card.
