  CHANGE OF HER MAJESTY'S AMBASSADOR TO THE REPUBLIC OF IRAQ
 
Mr Christopher Prentice has been appointed Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Republic of Iraq in succession to the Honourable Dominic Asquith CMG who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment.  Mr Prentice will take up his appointment during September 2007.

  ASSISTANCE TO IRAQI LOCALLY ENGAGED STAFF
 
On 9 October the Foreign Secretary outlined details of ex-gratia assistance to be provided to Iraqi staff working for British Armed Forces and Civilian Missions in Iraq.
 
On Tuesday 30 October the Foreign Secretary gave further details of the assistance to be made available.

Visas and Consular Assistance
There is currently no public visa service in Baghdad, the British Embassies in Amman, Jordan, and Beirut, Lebanon, are the designated posts for Iraq. Applicants are strongly advised to make an appointment with the Visa Section in Amman or Beirut before travelling as appointments are booked several weeks in advance.
 
The British Embassy in Baghdad has a Consular Section. Any British nationals travelling to Iraq for essential reasons should Register their presence with the British Embassy.
