UK and Thailand Discuss Assistance to Burma
The UK is saddened by the terrible loss of life following the devastating cyclone in Burma. The UK through its Department for International Development (DFID) has made an initial pledge of up to £5 million  - the largest single contribution by any one country - to go to UN, Red Cross and NGO partners on the ground to help meet immediate needs.  Read more...

The British Embassy Bangkok encourages British Nationals travelling or living in Thailand to register their details with LOCATE, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office global online registration database.  You may email us on locatebangkok@fco.gov.uk for queries regarding on-line registration.
 
A points based system: Making migration work for Britain
During 2007-9 a new Points Based System (PBS) for immigration is being introduced. It will affect all those travelling to the UK to work, study or through youth mobility/cultural exchange schemes, which account for approximately 20% of visa applications world-wide. It will not affect those travelling to the UK as short term visitors, those applying for family reunification, through UK ancestry routes or under the European Community Association Agreement (ECAA).

UK assistance to Burmese cyclone victims
On 6 May the Secretary of State for International Development Douglas Alexander announced an initial UK contribution of up to £5 million to help with emergency relief efforts following Cyclone Nargis.

The Department for International Development (DFID) also announced it will be sending an emergency field team to help with the wider international relief efforts and support the DFID team already in Burma. Read more...
